3 REALLY DUMB THINGS I DID TO PUBLISH MY FIRST BOOK

Guys you know I’m all about helping my fellow author - so I want to share some things that I did in the past that completely wasted my time and energy.

By sharing these, I hope I can help you avoid the same mistakes I made!

1) WENT THROUGH A VANITY PRESS SELF-PUBLISHER

I thought if I had a company backing me then it would help me get noticed and get more sales.

In reality, I was not being backed and didn’t hardly get any sales.

2) RELIED ONLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Back then I believed that if I only promoted on social media sites then I would grow my following and get sales, but I quickly learned that was a bad idea when one of my most used sites shutdown.

I was scrabbling trying to rebuild my supporters on a new platform.

3) USED STOCK PHOTOS FOR MY COVER

I did this because it was all my vanity press publisher allowed me to use. They took a stock photo and typed my name on it and the title. You could barely see either.

Using stock photos is not a bad thing if it’s designed to fit your branding.

Well it turns out that all of this wasted my time because…

1. I trusted in someone else instead of learning the business myself,

2. Social media is constantly changing, and

3. Random images that aren’t used to brand yourself or aren’t pleasing to the eye can hurt your book and sales.

Now, its your turn! What are some really done things have you done when publishing your book?
